Getting To The Trailhead: The preserve’s other main trailhead is located at the edge of Ohlone College however, ambitious hikers can also hike in from Sunol Regional Wilderness, Ed R. This parking lot fills up extremely early, and parking often spills into the neighborhood streets. The most popular for a summit of Mission Peak proper is at Stanford Ave. Mission Peak Preserve can be accessed from a number of different trailheads and parking lots. Many of the trails in the park are centered around and lead towards the summit, but there are multiple other loops and hikes you can do. The preserve contains just over 3,000 acres centered around Mission Peak itself. Including and centered around the 2,500 foot plus Mission Peak, this preserve is an extremely popular hiking destination, and a summit of Mission Peak is seen as a hiking right of passage in the South Bay! Located immediately east of the city of Fremont, Mission Peak Regional Preserve is one of the most popular, and most iconic hiking destinations in the entire Bay Area. The name probably gives it away, but this hike offers near constant views and huge panoramas of the Bay Area and the East Bay Hills! And while other hikers were brushing shoulders with a few hundred of their closest friends on Mission Peak itself, we had most of this loop to ourselves! Miles/Elevation:ġ,131 feet vertical gain About Mission Peak Regional Preserve: Much of the trail in WV is located alongside the roadway and dotted with yellow blazes marking the trail, as well as both sides of any road crossing.On a stunning winter day, Loralei and I set off for Mission Peak Preserve, not to tackle the iconic Mission Peak Hike, but to hike one of its less popular loops, the Panorama Trail. The camping shelters can be found at mile marker 11.5, 24, and 35.5 and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Along the trail in Pennsylvania there are three Adirondack shelters that provides some protection from the elements. Volunteers from the Warrior Trail Association have been working very hard to maintain the cooperation between landowners and trail users. Leave-no-trace ethics are encouraged, therefore, leaving only footprints. The trail is predominantly on private property so please respect the rights of the landowners. This trail is unique to the region and reminiscent of a more European countryside path than an eastern American forest trail. The trail provides excellent scenic vistas of the countryside and pastoral farmland. Traveling Northbound on I-79 from Morgantown, WV near Kirby, PA.Evidence of this path includes old maps, historical accounts, and a 2-3-foot-deep rut worn into the soil by Nettle Hill, PA. Miraculously the trail does not cross any body of water staying atop of the ridges, taking advantage of the contours created by the watersheds. The trail follows the ridgeline between the Whiteley and Dunkard Creeks in Pennsylvania and the ridges between Wheeling and Fish Creeks in West Virginia. The trail crosses Greene County, PA and Marshall County, WV in an east-west direction and about 6 miles north of the Mason-Dixon Line. The total trail mileage is 67 miles, with West Virginia boasting 22 miles while Pennsylvania captures most of the mileage with 45 miles. One end of the trail starts at the Monongahela River at Greensboro, PA and reaches the mouth of Fish Creek at the confluence of the Ohio River just south of Moundsville, WV. At Flint Ridge, the travelers would collect stones that they would later carve into arrowheads and tools. The original route was used as a commerce trail going from the Monongahela River to Flint Ridge near Zanesville, OH to acquire flint, trade, and to conference. The warrior trail is a path used for 5,000 years by Native Americans and now used by hiking and backpacking enthusiasts. The western end terminus at the mouth of Fish Creek and the Ohio River
